What is Cloud Computing ?

Cloud Computing:

Means On Demand Delivery of IT resources & services through internet on pay-as-you-go pricing method. The solution with Low cost of IT Infrastructure. Using this company need not invest on servers, internet, system softwares and others equipments. Company need to spend lots of money to establish such It infrastructure. To minimize & reduce the cost of infrastructure, cloud computing comes into existence.

Characteristics of Cloud Computing:

The characteristics of cloud computing are given below:

1) Agility :The cloud works in the distributed computing environment. It shares resources among users and works very fast.

2) High reliability :Availability of highend configured servers is high and more reliable, because chances of infrastructure failure are very much minimal.

3) High Scalability : Means "on-demand" provisioning of resources on a large scale, without having engineers for peak loads.

4) Multi-Sharing of Infrastructure :With the help of cloud computing, multiple users and applications can work more efficiently with cost reductions by sharing common infrastructure.

5) Location & Device Independency :Cloud computing enables the users to access systems using a web browser regardless of their location or what device they use e.g. PC, mobile phone etc. As infrastructure is off-site as provided by a third-party and accessed via the Internet, users can connect from anywhere.

6) Maintenance Requirement: Maintenance of cloud computing applications is easier, since user need not to install on each user's computer and can be accessed from different places using a web browser like Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. So, it reduces the cost also.

7) Low Cost:By using cloud computing, the cost will be reduced because to take the services of cloud computing, company need not on invest on infrastructure.

8) Services for pay-per-use method :The services are typically pay as you go, so there’s no need for capital expenditure atall. And because cloud computing is much faster to deploy, businesses have minimal project startup costs and predictable ongoing operating expenses.

Three Basic Types of Cloud: Infrastructure, Platform, and Software:

Software as a Service (SaaS)

SaaS basically means any Internet-based software or service that you rent, usually on a per user, per month basis. It is the most common type of cloud service that small offices use.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

PaaS is the next level of the cloud. The vendors of PaaS services provide a certain framework and a basic set of functions that customers can customize and use to develop their own applications.

Public Cloud: Public clouds are made available to the general public by a service provider who hosts the cloud infrastructure. With this model, customers have no visibility or control over where the infrastructure is located. It is important to note that all customers on public clouds share the same infrastructure pool with limited configuration, security protections and availability variances.

Private Cloud : Private cloud is cloud infrastructure dedicated to a particular organization. Private clouds allow businesses to host applications in the cloud, while addressing concerns regarding data security and control, which is often lacking in a public cloud environment. It is not shared with other organizations, whether managed internally or by a third-party, and it can be hosted internally or externally.

Hybrid Cloud: Hybrid Clouds are a composition of two or more clouds (private or public) that remain unique entities but are bound together offering the advantages of multiple deployment models. In a hybrid cloud, you can leverage third party cloud providers in either a full or partial manner; increasing the flexibility of computing.
